Agenda item #1 – Selection of Secretary
Yolanda Abel volunteers to take on the role of secretary. All approved.
Mrs. Knox volunteers to be the parliamentarian. All approved.
Agenda item #2 – Purpose of SGT
DChristensen- presents a bubble map to show the roles of SGT and SCC…center bubbles show common roles…outside bubbles show differences.
ASB chair asked what “hoc” means.
BAbts- thanking Deb for using thinking maps to show the roles of SGT and SCC. Reviewed the differences…SCC budget and how to spend it…based of changes in priorities of the school…interventions. SGT…instructional plans, discipline committees, master schedules.
BAbts- asked if Civil Safe School still a functioning committee (group)?
ACabello- explained that all are advisory committees that report to the Principal who makes ultimate decisions.
BAbts- stated that SGT is mandated by the district as a vehicle for shared decision making.
SGT roles: deal with policies, supporting student improvement, looking at data and making suggestions to SSC.
SGT – shared decision making on campus with representation from all members, students, and parents.
ASpaniel- stated that there has been confusion/way of thinking in regards to subcommittees. Do they make decisions or recommendations? When do they present to SGT? SGT then repeats the process…committee members felt like their work/time was wasted.
It was stated that committees need to report to SGT as part of the shared decision making process.
SGT’s job is to look at what the committees present and ask them to re-evaluate or ask for clarification and see if everyone agrees. SGT members also bring back information to grade/department that they represent.
SGT members also need to get information form their departments and present it to SGT.
SGT will approve committees’ product…
KMarushige- stated that decisions made are binding…everyone must agree.
SGT has the authority to ask committees to go back and think things through…re-plan.
Committees need a framework that they can follow/be clear with expectations.
Allow committees to send emails to SGT members.

KMarushige- wanted to know the relationship between ITL and SGT? Does ILT report to SGT?
ACabello- ILT and SGT are two different groups.
ILT is looking at data and how we can improve student achievement.
ILT from the district to weaken SGT as a shared decision making group.
ACabello- will have an ILT and SGT…members have been selected. Does not want to wait a month to bring items to SGT and then another month to hear back.
BAbts- explained that ILT members don’t make decisions…the administrator will.
ACabello- will allow ILT to make recommendations. He will not have an ILT/SGT group.
KMarushige- reading contract…explains that there are some overlaps, example…KMarushige- makes decisions that dictate how back-to-school night will run…not sure why but he does it anyway.
BSchonian- wants to know how ILT will run – ACabello- doesn’t want ILT to report to SGT.

ACabello- wants ILT to be aggressive…giving an example of pilot programs. Don’t want to miss any opportunities.

Confused about Powers with Pairs.
Wants to know if Master Schedule is set? They have to adjust group activities daily because of schedule changes.
KMarushige PE samples sent to Sweden/8th grade computer class work was not completed last year to be sent to monitoring/2nd round of MSAP money arrives 10/1/11.
Curriculum development – 6th grade talk unit pull out yesterday 9/26/11…Algebra Readiness did pull out last Friday 9/23/11. 8 teachers to be sent to IB training in NY.
BAbts- would like to have a discussion at the next meeting about Prime Time. Has a pre-arbitration meeting with district on Thursday 9/29/11…hoping to settle the 7 period day waiver issue.
